Foreign Pressure Won't Solve Nigeria's Security Problems

The latest calls from foreign lawmakers to pressure Nigeria over insecurity should make us uncomfortable.

Not because they are foreign.

But because they believe they have a reason to say it.

Whether it comes from Europe or the United States, no Nigerian wants our country's security record to become a bargaining chip in foreign capitals. Yet that is exactly what happens when violence continues for too long and communities feel abandoned.

I don't believe Nigeria should improve security to satisfy Washington or Brussels.

Nigeria should improve security because every Nigerian deserves to live without fear.

Mr. President has repeatedly said security remains a priority. Now the focus must be on delivering results that speak louder than any international criticism.

The day Nigeria becomes known for protecting its people instead of defending its reputation, foreign pressure will become irrelevant.

The strongest answer to international criticism isn't a speech.

It's a safer Nigeria.
