No Nigerian Should Die Because of an Accusation

I don't care what someone is accused of.

No Nigerian deserves to be beaten to death by a mob.

Reports surrounding the death of a university student who was allegedly attacked after being suspected of being gay have once again raised questions about violence, bullying,

and the rule of law.

If someone has broken the law, then the police and the courts should handle it.

The moment ordinary citizens decide they can become judge, jury, and executioner, every Nigerian becomes less safe.

Today it may be someone accused of homosexuality.

Tomorrow it could be someone falsely accused of theft, blasphemy, or any other offence.

I believe Mr. President and security agencies should make one thing absolutely clear: mob justice has no place in Nigeria.

A country governed by the rule of law cannot allow accusations to become death sentences.
