I'm Relieved the Oriire Children Are Home, But This Should Never Become Normal

I am genuinely relieved that the kidnapped Oriire pupils and their teachers have been rescued. Every child deserves to return home safely, and I commend the security agencies for bringing this ordeal to an end.

I also appreciate Mr. President's continued focus on improving security across the country.

But I hope we don't reach a point where rescue operations become our measure of success.

The real victory is preventing children from being kidnapped in the first place.

Parents should be thinking about their children's education - not whether they will return home safely after school.

I believe Nigeria is making progress in some areas of security, but there is still much work to do. Every successful rescue should motivate us to strengthen intelligence, protect schools, and ensure that kidnappings become increasingly rare.

I celebrate this rescue.

I look forward to the day when stories like this are no longer part of our daily news.
