Calling for a President's Removal Requires More Than Politics

The opposition has every right to question the government.

That is democracy.

But calling on the National Assembly to investigate whether a sitting President is fit to remain in office is one of the most serious constitutional demands that can be made. If there is credible evidence that a President is unable to carry out the duties of office, the Constitution provides mechanisms to deal with it.

If there isn't, then such calls risk becoming political theatre instead of constitutional accountability.

I believe Nigerians deserve a higher standard from both government and opposition.

Criticise policies.

Expose failures.

Demand transparency.

But when it comes to questions about a President's fitness for office, the evidence must be stronger than the politics.
