If Manufacturers Are Selling at a Loss, the Economy Isn't Working

I don't need another economic report to know businesses are under pressure.

When manufacturers are reportedly selling products below their production cost just to reduce almost ₦2 trillion worth of unsold inventory, it tells me something is wrong. Rising production costs, weak consumer demand, and expensive borrowing continue to squeeze businesses.

I understand that economic reforms take time.

But businesses cannot survive on patience alone.

If factories cannot sell profitably, they slow production, postpone investment, and eventually cut jobs. That hurts workers, families, and the wider economy.

I believe Mr. President's reforms should ultimately be judged by one simple question:

Can Nigerian businesses grow without losing money?

The day manufacturers start expanding instead of clearing stock at a loss is the day

Nigerians will truly begin to feel the economy improving.

Until then, optimism should be matched with urgency.
